Trucking Departments with Teeth

Safety, Recruiting, Retention  Mgrs, Operations, Sales, Payroll, Billing, Maintenance

In over 34 years in this industry I have worked in most of these departments and eventually at the executive level.  During this time department heads have approached me regarding the level of cooperation they receive from the other departments.  More than once I have heard “In order for us to do our jobs our department needs to have some teeth”  Meaning they wanted to have authority over other departments to force cooperation.  At a former company the Founder/ Owner told me that the trucking world revolves around 2 positions.  1. Drivers 2. Dispatchers.  In his words the rest of us are support.  While all these departments are important and even vital, typically the issues between them trickle down to the drivers adversely affecting them.  The bottom line is “no biting required”  Departments should all support each other and doing so will better support drivers and give them good direction … It all matters… from scanning bills to pretrips to logs etc.

  1. Summed up in one word “Diligent” (Doing something diligently means doing it thoroughly and well. It’s the opposite of doing it lazily or shoddily. If you are tireless, persevering, and do things with great care, then you do things diligently. This is an adverb that goes with hard and careful work.) I was taught this by my BEST BOSS EVER…KC
